Amazon Chime targets at WebEx, Skype in Online Conferencing

Amazon has disrupted many established business with cloud platform and online retailing services. Now it is taking on online conferencing with Amazon Chime.

Amazon is admittedly entering an exceedingly competitive market dominated by the likes of Cisco WebEx and Microsoft Skype. But Amazon is betting that its service, delivered from its global cloud service, will provide a reliable service that attracts small businesses as well as large enterprises.

Chime is now available in three versions: Chime Basic Edition is free and lets users attend meetings, call another person using voice or video, and use Chime’s messaging and chat capabilities.

Chime Plus Edition adds user management, such as the ability to manage an entire e-mail domain, disable accounts, or configure Active Directory, as well as 1GB per user of message retention–all for $2.50 per user/per month.
Chime Pro Edition adds the ability to host meetings with screen sharing and video for up to 100 users and also includes support for mobile, laptop, and in-room video along with unlimited VoIP support. It costs $15 per user/per month.

Missing-partition-for-run-step error in Synchronization Service Manager after deploying Azure AD Connect ?

This happens in a scenario where you have multiple domains but choose not to synchronize one. Even though nothing is being synchronized the configuration wizard still adds a step in the run profiles to try and synchronize which causes the error. The solution is to remove the step from the run profiles using Synchronization Service Manager as follows:

  1. Launch the Synchronization Service Manager (C:\Program Files\Microsoft Azure AD Sync\UIShell\miisclient.exe)
  2. In the Operations tab you will notice the errors related to “missing-partition-for-run-step”
  3. Select the Connectors tab
  4. Right-click the management agent or the Connector type for Active Directory Domain Services, and then click Configure Run Profiles
  5. Right click on your on-premises Active Directory connector and select Configure Run Profiles action
  6. Look for the step that has a Partition value that contains a string of alphanumeric characters (for example, {19C9A43A-8F9C-897D-97B9-F0158934D691}), and then click Delete Step
  7. Click Apply and then click OK
  8. Repeat the steps from 6-7 for each run profiles
  9. Right click the same management agent or connector again and then click RUN
  10. Select Full Sync and then click OK

Action Required: .NET 4.6.1 update issues

Hello Everyone! As you may know, .Net 4.6.1 is now available and has been made a recommended update on Windows Update. At this time, the Exchange team is recommending that you do NOT install this update on your Exchange servers: http://blogs.technet.com/b/exchange/archive/2016/02/10/on-net-framework-4-6-1-and-exchange-compatibility.aspx.

As a result of this recommendation from the Exchange team, the Skype for Business team is recommending the same course of action for Lync/Skype for Business servers.

Please follow the guidance located here to block the installation: 3133990, How to temporarily block the installation of the .NET Framework 4.6.1).
